An opportunity has arisen to join Eurostar as its Specialist Infrastructure Engineer

You will oversee and manage specialist, complex, and safety-critical assets within Eurostar. You will provide hands-on support for the management and completion of Infrastructure projects.  You will introduce new assets and optimize existing assets, ensuring operational efficiency. You will also be the leading Eurostar sustainability projects as required and in alignment with Eurostar and Temple Mills depot’s sustainability strategy. You will drive progress in sustainability initiatives, actively contributing to environmental best practices.  You will take responsibility for both minor and major Infrastructure projects as needed. You will navigate challenges and strategic opportunities, whilst ensuring successful project execution.

This position is based at our Engineering Centre in Leyton with travel to other EIL sites where required.

Requirements

We're looking for someone to...

  • Apply strong problem-solving skills to analyse complex information on railway infrastructure and sustainability. Communicate insights effectively to stakeholders, influencing decisions and driving strategic solutions aligned with organizational goals.
  • Analyse and appraise work in progress to ensure the efficient use of people, materials, infrastructure and information.
  • Utilise technical expertise within railway infrastructure to proactively identify and implement solutions aligning with organisational objectives, thereby advancing the sub-function's pivotal role in achieving overarching business goals.
  • Serve as a sustainability champion within the depot and organisation, actively engaging with depot and business staff to provide guidance, education, and support on sustainable practices, pushing for a culture of environmental responsibility and awareness.
  • Introduce, develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures to support the control of key exams and repairs.
  • Identify problems preventing standards being achieved, propose corrective actions, and optimization of lead times using tools/methods to address wasted time and non-value add tasks.
  • Monitoring of work completion timings and effectiveness via daily work report and Job Booking analysis.
  • Based on Production delivery observations, propose improvements to the Start Chart which defines the periodicity and occurrence of all maintenance undertaken on e320 trains.
  • Conduct structured Industrial Engineering studies to verify capacity requirements and improve production efficiency.
  • Support the development of Production planning processes and approaches.
  • Assist in the management and help promote a delivery-focused culture to support EIL’s long term Lean transition and continuous improvement program.
  • Support the Business with TMI Lean-Sigma/Kaizen Improvement Programmes to increase production capacity and enhance working practices across all Production functions at TMI.
  • Support Continuous Improvement events and ensure appropriate information, data and resources are available and that post event actions are managed to a conclusion.
  • Implement, monitor and review sustainment techniques including 5S, visual management etc.
  • Support the development of work packages associated with the E300 fleet, and partner depot capacity.
  • Identify tooling requirements and take action to acquire for Production. 
  • Contribute insights gained to the development of business cases that support improvement initiatives.
  • Develop work plans based on measurements to deliver efficiency gains aligned with cross-departmental objectives and priorities.
  • Carry out observations on shop floor to validate the expected impacts of changes effectively communicating to stakeholders.

 

Essential

  • Strong project management skills, showcasing a track record of successfully delivering projects in a timely manner.
  • Expert Knowledge of infrastructure energy management and CO2 emission reduction within industry
  • Proven experience with contractor management, previous exposure and understanding of contract setup/negotiations.
  • Proven experience in contractor management, including a comprehensive understanding of contract setup and negotiations.
  • Expert knowledge of infrastructure energy management, together with a demonstrated ability to reduce CO2 emissions within an industrial setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to sustainability practices, with a proven track record of integrating environmentally friendly solutions into infrastructure improvement projects.
  • Familiarity with relevant sustainability standards and regulations within the railway and transportation industry, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication abilities are essential.
  • Collaborative engagement with stakeholders to promote and implement sustainable practices, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility.
  • Substantial experience at an intermediate level with Microsoft packages, including proficiency in Visio and Project, to support efficient project planning and documentation.
  • Thrives in a high-pressure and dynamic depot environment, consistently delivering results with resilience and composure.
  • Maintains a consistently positive outlook at work, contributing to a constructive and motivated team atmosphere even during challenging situations.
  • Adapts interpersonal style to suit different people or situations, showcasing effective communication and collaboration skills in diverse contexts.
