The transportation infrastructure sector is experiencing unprecedented levels of investment and Atkins is playing chief roles in projects to upgrade existing transport networks to deliver future demand including major new road schemes, high-speed rail as well as extensive public transport enhancements. We are also working closely with our clients to adapt to the evolving Covid-19 environment. Our teams are currently delivering exciting and important policy, strategy, modelling and research projects throughout the transportation sector. We are at the forefront of national and international policy making, supporting key decision makers at all levels; and are also supporting the development of cutting-edge technology in the transport sector.

We are currently recruiting talented individuals to help deliver transport planning projects for our expanding client base. With over 300 specialists in our Transport Planning business, we have the flexibility and resources to provide our clients with an extensive range of services including transport policy and strategy planning, traffic modelling, scheme appraisal, travel demand management, scheme design and development planning.

Our Cambridge Office:

Our Cambridge Transport Planning Practice is home to a team of 25 professionals delivering exciting projects across the full range of Transport Planning capabilities including Modelling, Development Planning, Transport Economics & Business Case, Highway Design and Data Analytics. We develop innovative transport solutions to address the challenges faced by our local, national and global clients from both the private and public sector.

Some of our key clients include the Greater Cambridge Partnership, Highways England, and the Department for Transport. Our team regularly works with our colleagues in other UK offices and in our Global Technology Centre meaning that we have industry specialists at our disposal to offer our clients with the most innovative solutions.

Our recently refurbished office is situated in an ideal location to the north of Cambridge, just five minutes from the City Centre and served by frequent public transport links. Many of our staff commute by cycle as the office has excellent links to the City Centre and surrounding villages. Our office has ample cycle parking space with a shower, changing facilities and storage lockers. The office is also easily accessible by car via the newly upgraded A14.

We have over 90 staff in the office, making it an exciting place to work, but is a very personable and friendly office with an effective social scene.

The Role:

We are recruiting Transport Planners across all grades and would like to discuss our exciting range of opportunities with prospective candidates. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who wish to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business. We cover all aspects of multidisciplinary design and management from inception to options appraisal through to detailed scheme design and delivery support. Our transport planners support our clients in finding the best outcomes for their transport challenges. We develop innovative solutions and advise on everything from project costs and benefits to the best options to unlock investment.

We have a network of offices across the UK but are particularly keen to hear from prospective candidates who wish to work in our Cambridge office. The Candidates:

We have an exciting range of opportunities across disciplines and levels of experience. Successful applicants will be flexible, self-motivated and will be expected to demonstrate the following:

  • Excellent communication with strong report writing capability.
  • Strong analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and proven success in meeting deadlines.
  • Confident team worker with ability to work independently.
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate technical skills and competencies commensurate with their area of expertise and level of experience such as -

  • Development of transport strategies and plans (local and strategic).
  • Scheme appraisal and business case preparation.
  • Transport scheme development.
  • Development of multi-modal transport strategies.
  • Transport modelling.
  • Stakeholder Engagement.
  • Public Consultation.

Successful candidates will have -

  • A range of relevant technical skills and competencies.
  • A relevant planning, economics, geography, engineering degree or similar.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of current UK transport policy.
  • A passion for transportation.
  • Ideally, membership of a relevant professional institute.
