Team Lead & Senior/Principal Consultant – Rolling Stock Project Services

The Rail Consulting Practice is part of the SNC-Lavalin family and sits within the Atkins UK Transportation business. In Rail Consulting we work across the rail life cycle helping our clients in both the UK and overseas to navigate through a rapidly changing world.
The Rail Consulting Practice is made up of three distinct Practices, further structured into Sub-Practices, all of which are supported by a Win Work team. The Rolling Stock Delivery Practice within Rail Consulting is a highly successful and respected team of approximately 170 people with an established portfolio of services working across all aspects of Rolling Stock consulting. The Rolling Stock Project Services Sub-Practice has a great market position and reputation with our clients, which includes most major ROSCOs, TOCs, maintainers and manufacturers. The Sub-Practice has team members based in our Birmingham, Derby, Glasgow, London and Manchester offices in the UK.

The Role
Working within the Project Service Sub-Practice, you will report into the Practice Manager, Rolling Stock Project Services.
Key accountabilities and responsibilities:
Working with the Practice Manager and other Team Lead(s) to:
- Develop a high performing, inclusive team with opportunities for staff development and mobility.
- Develop your team to meet emerging market demands utilising on the job and formal training.
- Coordinate work winning activity within the team to deliver compelling, competitive and commercially sound proposals.
- Monitor and engage with the market, supporting the development of business plans that grow a pipeline of profitable and commercially sound work whilst fostering great client relationships.
- Provide high quality advice and deliverables to UK and international clients, both as an individual and through the effective coordination of resource from other areas of the business.
- Lead projects, bids and work packages as required with a focus on excellent project delivery.
- Ensure projects are resourced and managed in line with the Service Delivery Process, with excellent levels of client support and proactive use of feedback. Monitor agreed packages of work to ensure timely and high-quality completion.
- Ensure plans are developed and implemented to predict, monitor and improve, team performance across agreed metrics.
- Support responsible team recruitment and retention in line with market demand and budget/forecasting.
Example work activities:
- Working within a multi-disciplined project team, leading on engineering projects across a broad range of high value and complex new system, refurbishment and refresh projects.
- Supporting and advising maintainers and owners on life extension strategies and overhaul deferrals.
- Supporting rolling stock procurement and fleet introduction; including leading the delivery of these programmes on behalf of Owners and Operators.
- Support or lead in preparing, selling and delivering compelling bids and propositions to rail companies and other clients.
- Undertaking and supporting incident investigations resulting from operational and maintenance issues.
- Working within the client base providing direct support to Manufacturers, Owners and Operators to deliver their projects in accordance with their processes and procedures.

- Leadership and communication skills with the ability to inspire, collaborate, and engage effectively across medium-sized teams. Track record of developing self and others to deliver demonstrable results.
- Able to establish trusted relationships with clients and get satisfaction from meeting/exceeding client expectations.
- Possess a proactive and client-focused attitude towards delivery. Ability to critically assess projects of all complexities to identify risks and opportunities and use project management and governance processes to balance business and client needs.
- Experience of supporting the creation and successful delivery of financial and operational performance budgets and forecasts, taking inputs from various stakeholders.
- Also possess engineering knowledge, experience, and expertise in a project’s environment and/or project management capacity, working within multi-disciplined project teams including new build, maintenance, refurbishment or operating capacity commensurate with the role and grade.
