SNC-Lavalin Atkins works from a range of locations in the UK. This opportunity with the Infrastructure Risk and Safety team is advertised for positions based within our teams in Birmingham, Manchester, Derby and London, other locations will also be considered. The team works predominantly in the UK rail domain with some work internationally.
We help our clients understand assurance requirements and guide to ensure that engineering safety and reliability is integral to the decision-making process. Working across the wider Atkins design and delivery teams, we work on many of the major rail infrastructure delivery programmes including HS2, East West Rail and Feltham Resignalling, as well as numerous smaller projects. We support each other to deliver and develop, including taking an active role in various technical and employee forums.
We also take opportunities for socialising together too.
You should have an appropriate level of railway systems knowledge, be experienced in using proprietary RAM modelling and analysis techniques and have a working knowledge of the principal RAM and ESM standards for railway system projects. You will need to have strong analytic, report writing, and workshop chairing skills.
As well as having relevant experience within at least one type of railway infrastructure; heavy rail, light rail; underground or metro, you should have significant experience across:
- Application and management of RAMS processes and techniques in accordance with the BS EN 50126, 50128 & 50129, IEC 61508 and other relevant standards.
- Production of RAM & safety documentation such as RAM Plans, RAM Analysis Reports, RAM Specifications, RAM Demonstration Cases, FRACAS Reports, Sparing Reports, FMEA, FTA and SIL allocation/demonstration reports.
- Engineering Safety Management processes (preferably Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment).
Becoming a Senior Safety and Reliability Engineer with Atkins will provide opportunities to:
- Collaborate with both internal and external customers to deliver reliability studies and safety assurance on a wide range of railway projects working across all engineering disciplines.
- Engage with stakeholders to ensure that their RAMS needs are understood and shape our services in response.
- Take a leading role in the development and sharing of knowledge across the team and mentoring and developing other staff.
- Be a role model for others with regards to fostering an inclusive culture and meeting our business’s processes, policies and values.
- Work across the business to align process, share knowledge and promote innovation.
- Support bid writing and pricing to win work.
- Continuously develop your skills and competence to maintain professional qualification.
