Job Description

Preventive Technicians will be expected to work as part of a team to ensure that the fleet of Edinburgh Tram rolling stock vehicles are maintained to a high standard and are available for passenger service.

Preventive Technicians will carry out a variety of tasks during their shift including; preventive maintenance, corrective, overhauls, and repairs. Technicians will be required to work on electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.

Functions and responsibilities

  • Carry out preventive maintenance on the rolling stock vehicles in a timely manner and in accordance to the vehicle maintenance instructions to ensure that they are safe, reliable and available for passenger service.

  • Remove components for overhaul, install and test overhauled components in accordance to maintenance instructions.

  • Carry out overhauls and internal repairs of assets in accordance to overhaul and repair procedures.

  • Carry out basic fault finding and corrective repairs that are required during maintenance exams and first use checks.

  • Carry out vehicle checks pre-service as required to ensure availability of vehicles for passenger service.

  • Carry out maintenance inspections to depot equipment in accordance to instructions.

  • Assist the Corrective Technicians in more complex fault finding as required.

  • Record accurate information of all tasks carried out onto the computerised maintenance management system.

  • Assist with the recovery of vehicles during operational incidents as required.

  • Carry out Campaigns, Fleet Checks and Modifications as required in accordance with instructions.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to maintenance processes and procedures.

  • Contribute to good depot housekeeping and adhere to health & safety, quality and environmental standards in accordance with CAF UK procedures.

Training required

NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering

Required professional experience

  • Post apprenticeship engineering experience.
  • Valid Driver's Licence.
  • Available for shift work (including weekends and nights).
