Job Description

Main Purpose of Job:

Deliver permanent way and small plant training and assessments in accordance with relevant client standards and legislation.

Accountable for the following:

  • To monitor and update course content in line with changing legislation and standards.
  • Maintain Continuous Professional Development (CPD).
  • To produce and deliver training programmes related to track/small plant in the rail sector in a safe manner.
  • Conduct competence assessments on individual delegates in accordance with industry standards.


  • PTS (Level 1 Medical)
  • Training Qualification (minimum Level 3)
  • First Aid Qualification
  • Assessor Qualification
  • A minimum of five years Permanent Way experience, preferably in both maintenance and renewals

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and deliver training programmes as required ensuring compliance to current legislation and Network Rail standards.
  1. Conduct competence assessments on clients’ staff.
  1. Ensure course and delegate material is updated as required.
  1. Provide detailed programme information to prospective clients and delegates.
  2. Provide feedback to students and clients as required.
  3. Maintain and record CPD to ensure continuing accreditation with Network Rail.
  4. On a day-to-day basis provide guidance and direction to other trainers.
  5. Ensure that all training materials and equipment are available on a timely basis for each course and that training rooms and training sites are resourced ready for the course to commence.

  2. To use all equipment in accordance with instructions and training, ensuring the correct use, storage and if necessary, disposal.
  3. Not to recklessly or maliciously interfere with, remove or otherwise render ineffective any item provided by the Company to ensure the health, safety and welfare of employees.
  4. Raise any issues or concerns relating to health, safety and welfare with the Managing Director.
