We are hiring a Maintenance Engineering Lead Engineer based in London at either our Golders Green or Morden Depots, with travel between depots. You’ll be working on one of the oldest and busiest Metro tube lines on the London Underground network, used by more than 200 million passengers a year.
Purpose of role
The Engineering team is one of the key functions in the Northern Line project. Our mission is to deliver innovative, cost-effective technical solutions and services to meet our customers’ expectations through excellence in engineering.
The role comprises leading and co-ordinating a team of Engineers to deliver activities and projects to provide a safe, reliable, and cost-efficient fleet of Northern Line trains, which meets the London Underground’s service requirements.
The role is approximately split 50:50 between Engineering and Management activities and will report directly into the Maintenance Engineering Manager.

- Support safety investigations and make recommendations

- Support Life Cycle Cost (LCC) process
- Obsolescence management

Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Strong engineering/technical knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems and maintenance policies/practices
- Strong organisational, resource management and team development skills
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills
- Experience in fleet maintenance or asset management environment
- Experience in delivering rail vehicle engineering change, including risk assessments and approvals
- Knowledge of rail industry legislation and safety case obligations
Desirable
- Ideally educated to Degree or Higher Certificate in engineering/technical discipline
- Chartered status or actively working toward chartered status (advantageous)
