Based at our Widnes site, the largest and most sophisticated centre for train modernisation in the UK, we have an exciting opportunity for an Industrial Engineer.

As an Industrial Engineer, you will be part of a team of four who have a unique opportunity to define how rail equipment is modernised, repaired, or overhauled. Alstom provides some of the latest digital manufacturing tools in terms of Manufacturing Execution Systems allowing it to be an agile organisation.

Purpose of role

You will be defining the methods and tools required by the shopfloor to enable them to carry out tasks in a safe and efficient manner. At the same time, you will be sorting issues occurring on the shop floor related to carrying out the task.

Alstom Widnes is currently working on some very high-profile rail projects for Avanti West Coast, South Western Trains and London Underground. You could be part of the team helping to deliver these projects.

What are my key responsibilities?

  • Planning methods to repair, overhaul and modernise equipment
  • Delivering the methods defined using Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).
  • Continuing to ensure safe methods are provided to the shop floor.
  • Liaising and working with colleagues in Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain and Operations.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

 Required experience, knowledge and skills

  • Extensive knowledge and experience of production/process engineering
  • Knowledge and experience of implementation of improvement methods
  • Knowledge of Standard Operation procedures, tools, and techniques
  • Understand modern manufacturing techniques – JIT, Kanban and when and how to implement
  • Experienced with industrial engineering techniques such as method study
  • Preparation of investment cases
  • Problem analysis and problem solving
  • An understanding of business system SAP and the ability to use MS Office packages

Desirable Requirements

  • A knowledge of Railway legislation and RAIL Industry IT systems, RAVERS, Trust and Gemini
