Head of Rail Partnerships

Job Description

“Moving to a green, healthy, dynamic and thriving North East” is our region’s vision for transport. For passengers and freight, Transport North East (TNE) provides transport strategy, planning and delivery services on behalf of the North East Joint Transport Committee, representing the seven local authorities in our region.

Transport North East works to deliver game-changing transport schemes and initiatives. Our goal is to greatly improve the lives of everyone living or working in our region.  We want to deliver a modern, robust transport system region-wide and promote greener, more sustainable travel.

Who we are looking for

We are looking to recruit a strategic leader capable of building strong and inclusive partnerships during a period of evolution for rail in our region. Key workstreams involve the building of a Rail Partnership for the region to achieve greater influence over service specification and monitoring, the sponsorship of rail infrastructure schemes such as the reopening of the Leamside Line and the on-going task of influencing key rail industry partners and decision makers to secure services which meet our region’s needs.

The successful candidate will directly report to the Transport Strategy Director and participate in the work of other work-streams, in order to ensure that the activities and outputs from the TNE Rail Partnership Team is integrated as part of the Strategic Transport Plan and the North East Rail and Metro Strategy to ensure that solutions are complementary to each other.

We’re looking for an individual who will be recognised as an industry leader and regional ambassador, who can effectively influence and communicate at all levels and who can motivate teams to deliver against complicated stakeholder back drops. You must have a track record of forming sustainable and productive relationships against complex stakeholder backdrops, and an appreciation of how to navigate the rail industry to achieve the best outcomes for our region.

Based at Gateshead Civic Centre and remote working, the ideal candidate will need to be able to work effectively and collaboratively with stakeholders and partners.

It is an opportunity to work with a friendly, skilled and professional team who share a passion for delivering game-changing transport schemes and initiatives with the goal of greatly improving the lives of everyone living and working in our region.

Critically, you will be a senior manager at Transport North East, with the right leadership qualities to drive our organisation forward and secure excellent results. Why not join us on the Transport North East journey?
