Job purpose
Provide assurance to the CFO and the GTR Board that suitable mitigations or controls have been put in place to address the main business, operational and financial risks. Focus on efficiency and continuous improvement in all areas. Maximise the use of technological solutions, particularly those offered by Microsoft 365.
Key success criteria (expected outcomes)
- Internal audit demonstrably supports an effective governance framework
- Completion of the audit plan
- Audit / consultancy assignments are based on risk, including a detailed analysis of all relevant data
- Concise and clear reporting to management
- Pragmatic and cost-effective solutions and recommendations implemented on time
Key results area (how those expected outcomes will be achieved)
- Deliver audit / consultancy assignment reports according to the approved risk-based methodology and to agreed deadlines
- Assist management in the development of action plans
- Advise on policy and procedure requirements or updates
- Conduct control awareness training with managers
- Project work and special investigations into business issues arising
Dimensions
- No line management
- Work closely with colleagues in Internal Audit and Compliance, GTR Finance Directorate and other key stakeholders including colleagues at all levels of the organisation, The Go-Ahead Group, the Department for Transport. Seek opportunities for collaboration across the Rail Industry.
- There are likely to be opportunities to progress into an operational role within GTR or the Go-Ahead Group within the next one to three years

Knowledge
- Qualified or part-qualified Accountant (CCAB) or Internal Auditor (CIIA) [ESSENTIAL]
- Oracle or other GL Accounting System
- Microsoft 365, especially Excel and Word; Power BI desirable
Skills
- Ability to think strategically while maintaining an attention to detail
- Build and maintain collaborative working relationships
- Excellent communication skills, ability to present findings clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing
Experience
- Internal or external auditing
- Rail or transport industry
