Job Description

The Depot Manager will lead the production team to deliver maintenance of the fleet in a safe and effective way, ensuring the trains are maintained in compliance with the maintenance plan.  

Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be responsible for the successful operational performance and efficiency of the Wales and Borders depots, ensuring the availability of resources, robust depot procedures are in place, staff are engaged and the Safety, Health and Environment of all stake holders is maintained and continually improving.  

This role will develop and drive operational improvement projects that will improve the safety and productivity of both depots.   

Functions and responsibilities

  • Ensure a positive Health & Safety culture is embedded across the depots.
  • Monitor and manage health and safety statistics and targets within the depots.
  • Establish, develop, and monitor the delivery of the short, medium- and long-term production plan.
  • Oversee the short-term production plans to ensure that changes, driven by customer or technical requirements, can be incorporated.
  • Ensuring that the CAF Rail UK license for Entity in Charge of Maintenance is achieved and maintained.
  • Develop strong customer relationships at senior management level, understanding the customer’s needs.
  • Ensure unit availability is maintained to contractual requirements.
  • Ensure that facilities, plant, and depot equipment are managed in such a way as to facilitate the safe and efficient running of the depots to support the business needs.
  • Development of the annual ‘Depot Business Plan’ and maintain the depot asset register, across both sites.
  • Scoping and delivering a range of continuous improvement projects as agreed with Operations Manager.
  • Accountable to the Operations Manager for budgetary control of the production resources.

Training required

Minimum HND or above in an Engineering discipline.

Required professional experience

  • Previous relevant experience in a similar role within the Rail industry. 
  • Knowledge of depot maintenance procedures. 
  • Good knowledge of Railway Standards. 
  • Detailed knowledge of Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental standards and systems. 
  • Strong leadership skills and experience of engaging teams to deliver results.
