About The Role

We are currently recruiting for an Assistant Planner to join our Planning and Controls Team. A key focus of the role will be to support project teams with the planning of works within infrastructure Planning and Design.

This is a great opportunity to go into a career in Project Planning.  Whilst this is an entry level position, we are looking to develop and support the right person to progress into a Project Planner and eventually a Senior Planner.  The long-term career and earning opportunities for people with the right attitude and skill set are huge.  We are very open to developing anyone with the right skills and attitude. Key Duties & Responsibilities

As part of your day to day role, you are responsible for the following:

  • Supporting the planning team and hierarchy when needed to input into P6 Primavera programmes and assisting in resource loading and cost loading of programmes.
  • Working in a disciplined manner to the standards set in the schedule management plan.
  • Assisting and sometimes leading in the planning of projects from GRIP 1 through to GRIP 8.
  • Producing outputs from the resource loading and cost loading of programmes so data can be uplifted into the company resource, cost and HR functions of the business.
  • Being the lead planner on small scale projects from £50k to £500k.
  • Attending project meetings and update the programme.
  • Measuring baseline variances and periodic variances and report these outputs into the project teams and project manager.
  • Producing a suite of reports and submit internally and to the client.
  • Clearly conveying and communicating on programme pressures e.g critical path and be able to understand and communicate this to the project team.
  • Producing tender stage and contract schedules.
  • Managing programme requirements on multiple projects so good organisational skills are required and also the ability to focus on the right things at the right time.
  • A strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Assist and lead in making sure all contract deliverables are captured in the programme.
  • Work to a change control process and manage cost and schedule variances and report into the commercial functions.
  • Assist Senior Project Planners in the production of scenario programmes to ascertain best option solutions.
  • Assist Senior Project Planners on large scale projects valued between £1 million and circa £50 million.
  • Build good relationships within the planning team and project team and add value to the project functions.
  • The above list is not exhaustive, and you will occasionally be asked to undertake additional duties where it is reasonable and appropriate.

  • P6 Fundamentals training
  • Experience of working with P6
  • In depth knowledge of project life cycles
  • APM Project Management Qualification
  • APM Project Fundamentals Qualification
  • Experience of delivery of rail projects
  • In depth understanding of PACE (Network Rail)

Monday to Friday, Office based position.
