THE ROLE: Responsible for the overall performance and P&L of the ScotRail Advertising & Media estate. Continually evolving the estate through developing a digital transformation programme in line with our advertising & media partner(s) and in turn growing this revenue stream. Contract Manager for all commercial non passenger revenue contracts ensuring that each contract is commercially viable, in the best interests of Scotrail and our passengers and is performing to agreed KPI’s and obligations.


  • Managing a growing portfolio in excess of £1 million pa
  • Responsible for the ScotRail advertising & media revenue stream and P&L
  • Performance Management of Advertising & Media partner(s) ensuring they are delivering on both financial and quality commitments
  • Challenge and negotiate budgets and forecasts ensuring revenue growth in our advertising & media revenue streams
  • Create, appraise, and deliver a digital transformation programme of the estate that generates greater revenue
  • Internal and external stakeholder management
  • Approvals for advert content ensuring that advertising standards and parameters are adhered to
  • Work collaboratively with Service Quality colleagues ensuring that all advertising meets ScotRail standards
  • Identify, design, deliver and sustain process improvements for all partners and suppliers who influence our ancillary revenue streams
  • Introduce and manage a robust governance framework for Advertising, Media and Contracts inputting to companywide requirements
  • Work closely with PMO ensuring that any new stations or station developments consider and enhance the advertising & media network
  • Work closely with station and on-train colleagues considering their views for any new assets or ways to improved existing assets
  • Use the ScotRail database accessing all commercial contracts that you will familiarise yourself with to ensure all suppliers and partners are meeting contractual obligations
  • Adhere to all ScotRail processes including but not limited to EQIA, FOI requests and finance processes
  • Engage and collaborate with external experts across the industry ensuring that your skills and knowledge are up to date keeping the ScotRail ancillary revenue in line with industry competitors
  • Prepare, present and secure capex and/or opex funding



  • Knowledge in advertising & media industry
  • Experience in negotiating commercial agreements
  • Experience in reading and interpreting legal contracts and documents
  • Financially astute preparing, managing and delivering net profit/income and expenditure budgets
  • Proven track record in successfully identifying and developing revenue generating opportunities and partnerships that benefit customers and the business
  • Develop, implement, and deliver against key performance measures
  • Highly motivated with the ability to consistently deliver to tight deadlines under pressure, as well as having a mind-set to adapt and create key changes to constantly improve performance
  • Track record of collaboration through relationship building and networking with a wide variety of stakeholders and customers
  • Excel in presenting the case for change and gaining business approvals
  • Tenacious in overcoming obstacles and challenges
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and on behalf of the business


  • Experience of transport industry or similar diverse and complex business

Hours of work: 35-hour week Monday – Friday.  Reference Salary: circa £40k per annum depending on experience.

Selection process: Assessment and Interview may form the initial stages of the selection process. The final stage for successful candidates will be a medical questionnaire. Appointees must submit at least two satisfactory references, Disclosure Scotland clearance and complete a six-month probation period. Training initially involves attendance on our virtual Induction Training Programme.
